Here at HotelsCombined, we”ve recently become besotted with Emma Gardiner”s quirky Aussie travel/lifestyle/culinary blog. From heartfelt musings on relationships to suggestions for a “kick ass” Canberra weekend getaway, there is never a dull post in the SheGoes arsenal – moreover, you”re likely to find plenty of Down Under hidden gems that you wouldn”t learn about from a Lonely Planet guide.
Emma was recently kind enough to feature my travel tales on her blog and I thought it was only fair that she should answer a few questions for us in return:
What’s your favourite travel book?
I am embarrassed to say Eat, Pray, Love.
Favourite travel movie?
It”s hard to say what a travel movie actually is. There are a lot of movies that centre around journeys, but I wouldn”t necessarily call them travel movies. I am going to go for anything by Ang Lee – Brokeback Mountain, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Life of Pi. His films always seem to capture scenery in such an extraordinary way.
Number one travel pet peeve?
Forgetting my phone or camera charger or, alternatively, neglecting to buy a local adapter plug.
What trips do you have planned for 2013?
I am going to Japan for Cherry Blossom over Easter and I am dreaming of heading north to Port Douglas in October to get some sunshine. I would also love to get to Perth or Darwin because I still haven”t been.
What destination do you absolutely HAVE to go to before you die?
What’s your favourite Australian destination?
I love the area up around Dorrigo, Bellingen and Coffs Harbour [in New South Wales]. Lots of wildflowers, hippies, docile dairy cows, quirky little shops and cafes and beautiful beaches once you reach the coast.
Australians tend not to travel around their own country. Why do you think that is?
The expense. Australia is very expensive for travel compared to our neighbours in New Zealand and South East Asia. Plus, I think a lot of us think we can [explore Australia] when we get older and lose our tolerance for long-haul flights and heavy itineraries.
Which fellow Aussie bloggers do you look to for inspiration?
What’s been your best hotel experience?
