Gone are the days when Easter egg hunts consisted of a basket and some signs in a back garden directing enthusiastic children to chocolate delights. This time-honoured tradition has moved much past its humble beginnings to become a global activity with thousands of people partaking in hunts around the world. 1. The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt

Various Locations, UK. 22nd March – 1st April.

After its success in London last year, The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt will see 101 uniquely designed giant Easter eggs scattered all across the country and hidden in cities throughout the UK as part of The Lindt Big Egg Hunt to support charity Action for Children. The gold Lindt bunny will be joining in on the hunt this year too by hopping in to reward hunters with a year’s worth of chocolate.

2. Cadbury Werribee Park Easter Egg Hunt

Melbourne, Australia. 29th March.

Raising funds for The Royal Children’s Hospital’s Good Friday Appeal, Cadbury keeps the magic of Easter going with this annual egg hunt and family picnic in Werribee Park. The hunt is the largest in Australia and provides more than just an egg hunt, with rides, craft tents and much more to keep the family entertained. Thousands of Cadbury eggs will be dotted across the park for the several egg hunts that will take place throughout the day.

3. Coconut Creek’s ‘Eggstravaganza’

Florida, USA. 31st March.

The Sunshine State currently holds the Guinness World Record title for the biggest Easter egg hunt in the world, with 10,000 people participating in 2007 to find 500,000 eggs to win the grand prize of a full university scholarship. Whilst slightly toning it down this year, you can still head to South Florida’s largest free egg hunt at Coconut Creek, with 60,000 eggs hiding and free food provided to keep you going

4. EGGstreme Egg Hunt for Adults

Colorado, USA. 31st March.

Set on the slopes of Copper Mountain, this high altitude Easter egg hunt sees 100 miniature copper eggs hidden in various locations over the mountain for the ‘Big Kids’ Hunt’. The hunt finishes when all the eggs have been found, with prizes including ski passes, Experience Copper gift cards, tubing tickets and summer activities passes. A gigantic 50,000-egg hunt will also take place for the little ones as Colorado’s largest egg hunt.

5. Egg Hunt at The Chateau Vaux Le Vicomte

Maincy, France. 31st March – 1st April.

Sitting an hour’s drive out of Paris, this glorious and historic castle hosts a splendid Easter event every spring, including egg hunts for children and adults over the Easter weekend. With 35,000 eggs hidden across the castle’s gardens for the hunting, face painting, chocolate-making workshops and pony rides, there will be plenty going on to make it one of the best egg hunts you’ve attended.

6. Hot Cross Fun at Forest Adventure

Bedok, Singapore. 29th March – 31st March.

On top of the usual stream of fun including four zip lines and 50 obstacles, Forest Adventures have a weekend of Easter activities up their sleeve. Children can partake in the Easter egg hunt across the forests, where they’ll need to swing off of zip wires, climb through trees and clamber over swings to get their hands on those eggs before meeting ‘Mr Bunny’ and enjoying some egg painting.

 7. Easter Egg Hunt in the Amazing Maze ‘n Maize

Auckland, New Zealand. 29th March – 1st April.

Set in a maze in a cornfield, this giant Easter egg hunt is open everyday over Easter, with the Easter bunny running around to plant 30,000 eggs over the four days. Participants not only have to hunt for eggs, but also have to find the bunny and find their way out of the huge six hectare maize maze. Sunday nights will also see an Easter egg hunt by torchlight at 7pm.

8. Old Settlers Park egg hunt in the dark

Texas, USA. 28th March.

With torch and basket in hand, you can head down to Old Settlers Park to shine your light and find the chocolate and golden eggs, with a special prize up for grabs too. This annual egg hunt in the dark holds hunts for all ages, with a twilight hunt for ages up to four, a parental assisted hunt and a ‘no parents allowed’ hunt, all before showing a family-fun movie in the park that is free to all.

9. The Great Peter Rabbit Egg Hunt

Lake District, England. 4th April.

Taking place along the watery edges, this hunt will see 50 beautifully decorated ceramic eggs hidden around the water to raise funds for charity WaterAid. Every person who finds an egg wins a prize, with five major prizes including hotel stays and one lucky winner bagging a week-long stay for six in a luxury holiday apartment.

10. Cadbury’s egg hunt at uShaka Marine World

Durban, South Africa. 30th– 31st March.

Africa’s largest Easter egg hunt sees 100,000 eggs and other hidden treasures spread out across the fifth biggest aquarium in the world, with the Easter bunny hiding chocolate delights around the phantom shipwreck aquarium. Brought to you by Cadbury’s, the hunt starts at 7am before a special Easter dolphin show at 9am, with special appearances from the uShaka mascots, the Easter bunny and the famous dolphins themselves.
